CONCERT INTRODUCTION

“Mother, I will have a husband”

Our next song was written by Thomas Vautour, and published in 1619...
.... the Golden Age of English Madrigals. .... in his Songs of divers Ayres and natures.
And that’s about all Google has to say.
One of our members astutely compared the song’s story to Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.... in which the younger sister may not marry until the older one does.
This older sister is hard to please and “will have none” of the young men.
But the younger sister is no sweet innocent ......
She bluntly informs her mother that she has no intention of waiting to enjoy the pleasures of marriage, .... and takes matters into her own hands.
